They go where few will, provide what is necessary; stay as long as they are absolutely needed (in many cases, decades) set up clinics and local personnel to take over, then move on.
It's the classic example of teaching a man how to fish...

And they speak the truth about what they see. They're beholden to no government (all private donations), so they have more freedom to move and to speak out in the most dangerous places on earth!
